LUMINOUS - SEPTEMBER 2022

LOONA's second Japanese single, and a worthy successor to the first. Luminous is an upbeat dance pop song. I'm obsessed with its runway vibe and how it sounds like it would be on the playlist for family pride events. I just love how fun LOONA's Japanese releases are! It's a breath of fresh air.

[FL!P THAT]: JUNE 2022

This album released the day after my 19th birthday, so I like to think of it as a birthday gift. Flip That is a really nice and bouncy summer song. POSE is a great song, but you really need to see it performed to get it. Even so, the last 30 seconds are transcendental, I think it's the best outro of any loona song. Makes you walk like nanana and talk like nanana every time you hear it. Pale Blue Dot reminds me of those songs that was always on the radio in the summer around 2013-2015 by one republic or something. Definitely not bad, but I dont think it clicked for me until they sang it at their concert and the whole stadium was singing that hook. Super nostalgic. Playback feels like it was mostly made to have a heartfelt song to play at the end of concerts, but goddamn is it an effective one. It feels like a really genuine love letter to orbits. Several members have their first songwriting credits on this track and it's such a treat to hear.

HULA HOOP: SEPTEMBER 2021

LOONA's first Japanese single. Hula Hoop is one of LOONA's best title tracks, second only to Butterfly. It's so upbeat and catchy that every time I hear it I have to drop everything to do the choreography (which is one of LOONA's best IMO, and that's saying something.) The chorus is soaring and lifts my spirits every time. Just the perfect song all around.

[&]: JUNE 2021

I'm going to be honest, this is my least favorite of LOONA's releases. That doens't mean I don't like it though. PTT was definitely made to be performed - when I saw them in concert, their performance was absolutely electric and was a hilight of the setlist. WOW and Be Honest are both fun and funky songs. A Different Night is a fine song, but very forgettable to me and I almost never go back to listen to it. UR is a really nice ballad to end the album with and is probably the song from here I come back to the most.

[12:00]: OCTOBER 2020

To put it frankly, Why Not? is a song for intellectuals. If you don't get it that's your problem. It speaks a language on a higher frequency that only some can tap into, and it's brilliant. Ooh la la awae awae awae. Fall Again is one of those songs that just touches my heart and makes me feel like running off into the rain and scream. Universe is another beautiful song. It's a perfect title, because the song takes you into its own universe. Hide and Seek is fun and silly, and i think Jinsoul put it best when she said it reminds her of the movie Madagascar. I don't know why but it makes perfect sense. OOPS! is a very strange song that I'm not sure how to feel about, but goddamn those vocal performances don't lie. Star is such a good pop song and the perfect introduction to LOONA for American radios. It's fun and upbeat, but it has layers and an underlying longing that makes it memorable, like any good retro song should. It's such a treat every time I hear this at Walmart.
